NOTE:

There appears to be 68 identifiable burials in the cemetery, however, with the large “open” areas throughout, and the large open area at the north end, it probably would be safe to estimate there are actually over 100.  Experience would indicate that the original cemetery was on the high point on the north end of the present location and moved outward from that point over the years.  This is somewhat supported by family oral history that states JESSE L. [D] GATLIFF was buried in “Bowen Cemetery” in 1889 and there is no marker for him.  It should also be noted that some of the oldest dated tombstones; #17 & 28 dated 1919, and # 49 dated 1910 all are on or near that high point.

DIRECTIONS:  From Delight Arkansas take Arkansas Highway 19 south and go three miles to Arkansas Highway 301.  Turn right/west and go about 2 ½ miles and watch for Bowen Church on your left/south side.  Continue for about one mile and watch for a field fence gate on your left/side with the sign on it BOWEN CEMETERY.  If you come to a creek bridge you have gone too far.  Go through the gate to top of hill and take the left ridge top and you can see the cemetery a few hundred meters in the distance.
